We see periodicity in the segments of a worm, the ribs and vertibrae of a snake, the scales on fish, feathers on birds, the periodic pores and hairs on a mammal's hide, and in the patterns of veins in leaves and stems of plants. We now know the reason for this pervasive principle of periodicity and symmetry in all living things.
