In other words the true situation is as shown here, with a world of color, space, and light in the inside of our head.
As to what it is that is outside our head, in the world itself, we are only beginning to understand in small part. Therefore the role of science is not to discover what might be going on inside our brain, that is already known. In fact, epistemologically speaking, it is the only thing we can ever really know with any certainty. Instead, the task of science is to discover what is going on outside our physical brain, in the part of the world which is beyond our direct experience.
