Discussion

Here are a variety of debates I have had with different people on the epistemological question. Curiously, nobody ever seems to be convinced by the arguments of the other side!

Debate with Frank May 2003.

This is an exerpted and summarized email debate with my old friend Frank, with whom I've had a long standing friendly disagreement on the epistemological question.

Debate with Zoltan Jakab January 2003.

This is my email debate with Zoltan Jakab, then a research fellow at Rutgers, author of Phenomenal Projection, a paper that proposes that conscious experience is projected out of the brain to be superimposed back out on the world.

Debate on the PSYCHE-D mailing list April 2005.

This is a summarized version of a long debate I had on the epistemology of conscious experience between Direct Perception v.s. Representationalism on the PSYCHE-D mailing list in April 2005. I have preserved only those portions of the exchange that led to interesting threads, with links to the original messages.

Debate with Bill Adams August 2005.

This is a long debate I had on the epistemology of conscious experience between Direct Perception v.s. Representationalism with Bill Adams in August-September 2005.

Debate with David Chalmers September 2005.

This is a short email debate I had with David Chalmers as a follow-up to the earlier debate on the PSYCHE-D mailing list (see above).

Debate with Myrddin Emrys  December 2006.

This is an email debate I had with Myrddin Emrys on the spatial nature of visual experience.
